Zebra Mats - The #1 Martial Art mat in the world.

What's the best mat for my art?

Martial Arts vary and so do mats. Depending on your art will also depend on your mat. For stand up arts like Karate and Tae-Kwon-Do, Kickboxing, Kung-Fu and other stand up Arts, Zebra Puzzle Mats are the perfect accompaniment to your art.

For Martial Arts like Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido or any art involving throwing, falling, flipping or grappling, Zebra Grappling Mats are the mats required for these Arts. Using the incorrect mat can cause injury and leaves your club or centre open to litigation should an injury occur by using the incorrect or cheap mats which are rated incorrectly. Be sure to have the correct mats for your art. Simply ask us which mat suits your art best this helps minimise injury and litigation from distressed parents or students.

Can I still get injured using top quality mats?

Injuries can occur anywhere anytime even while doing something so simple as walking the street. All Zebra Mats minimise the impact and shock to help protect you against the heavy impact that can be caused by falling. The correct mats help eliminate the impact and shock.

Why are Zebra Mats slightly expensive than no-name brands?

This is a question that many of you have asked us. Zebra Mats are slightly more expensive in the same way that Mercedes Benz is more expensive that a Hyundai. They are both vehicles and both may have air-conditioning, power steering, and some other creature comforts but they are not built the same way and with the same technology.

First of all, all Zebra Mats are specifically designed for Martial Arts, by a team of Martial Artists as well as an advisory team of Experts, Scientists, Players and Coaches. Zebra Mats have also been scientifically formulated and practically tested to meet and exceed martial art regulations and standards set by some Martial Arts governing bodies.

Cheaper mats can or are produced for other vertical markets produces who make many other products such as carton packaging, sound proofing insulation, bedding foam to carpet underlay just to name a few so what your getting is a variation of these products made as mats. These mats can be either too hard or way too soft. If a martial art mat is too hard, the impact fails to absorb into the mat which results in impact and shock being passed back up through into the person’s body. On the other hand, if the mat is too soft the impact pressure is not absorbed and the mat is compressed way too far and the under-floor is felt. The vibrations also fail to say or disperse into the mat resulting in the impact being absorbed into the person’s body.

A good way to explain shock and vibration is to look at a tennis player getting tennis elbow -  a tennis player avoids this by placing a vibration dampener (a little rubber silicone piece) on or through the tennis strings to absorb the vibrations from the tennis ball contact onto the string-bed. Although the strings compress taking up some of the vibrations, the tennis player still gets a considerable amount of harmful vibrations travel up the racquet and into the players arm. The end result can be tennis elbow just by striking a tennis ball with a tennis racquet, now imagine what you’re doing to the rest of your body when your jumping around on cheaper, non-proven mats.
